Three Fun Easter Eggs in World of Warcraft Shadowlands

I’ve been exploring the World of Warcraft a lot lately. It has been so fun and helpful at filling the void left by pandemic life. Trying to limit in-person interactions would have been limited to binging TV if I hadn’t discovered WoW. Things have been starting to feel a bit safer just in time for the weather to start turning. This means the beginning of the hiking season for me! While exploring WoW I’ve come across 3 Easter Eggs in Shadowlands that nod to 2 shows and a movie I am very fond of.

Easter eggs are hidden messages hidden by the creators to give us a little extra entertainment once we pick up on them. These are probably nowhere near all of them, just ones I have found exploring Shadowlands. I have searched the web found others who have pointed out different Easter Eggs they have found, but mostly in earlier content.

The first one I found was at Aspirant’s Rest (47.8,73.4) in Bastion completing a quest with Klystere. I heard her say “Clear skies, full hearts, can’t lose.” Which I immediately recognized as a slight rewording of the catchphrase from the show Friday Night Lights: “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.” I’ve watched the complete series through once and at the beginning of the pandemic I watched it about halfway through before I discovered some new series on Netflix (and forgot about going back to it until writing this, lol).

I was going after chests in Ravendreth, when I approached this one it had a bunch of dredgers and other characters standing around a sack lying in the open. For most chests, you need to defeat something, solve a puzzle, or get to it in some challenging manner. I was fairly sure I’d need to fight them. As I got closer they all began fighting each other, so I joined in the fight and after a little bit of work defeated them all and reaped my reward. In this bad was a note called “Pugilist Ring Rules,” which I almost didn’t read, but I was glad I did so I could read the pun on Fight Club one of my all-time favorite movies!

Gwynceirw, The Winter Wolf, in Ardenweald (65.6,24.6) is my favorite easter egg. It’s a nod to The Witcher. He even has his own bard, Daffodil and if you throw a glowing seed to him after completing the battle with the rare you earn a special achievement: “Toss a Seed to your hunter.” It is such a well-done reference and if you read the dialogue it is very reminiscent of the relationship between Geralt and Jaskier (on the show at least, I haven’t played the games or read the books yet). I even ran into the in “The Deep Unknown” doing a quest for Marasmius in The Ring of the mushroom transportation network (If you are a Night Fae Covenant member, like my Druid).

Really makes you want to pay more attention to the game. I have a habit sometimes of clicking through things really fast to move on to completing the objective. Warcraft really is something to savor and enjoy. What easter eggs have you found?
